Adrienne Rex

Adrienne Rex is a writer from Houston Texas. Their stories take after their author, meaning they’re usually imaginative and offbeat. When they're not making daydreams pay rent (otherwise known as writing), they’re drawing, reading, or being dragged around by their dog on what may charitably be called a walk.

What I like to write

  • Fantasy, sci fi, and horror. I'm all about speculative fiction. For longer stories, I like to incorporate a romantic subplot.

  • I prefer to write either very long stories, or really short ones. Sometimes a poem will bite my ankles until I write it, but I consider myself a prose writer.

  • The weird, the strange, the unimagined. I like mashing genres together like peanut butter and chocolate to see what I get.

  • Monsters, myths, and everything in between. I love unlikely main characters (retired supervillians, misfit dragons, necromancers with hearts of gold, etc) and unreliable narrators.

  • Expansive, weird worlds, but not at the expense of the plot.

  • I tend to write for more mature audiences, especially in my horror stories, but I occasionally write for young readers as well

What I like to read

  • Some of my favorite authors include Catherynne M. Valente, Tamsyn Muir, and Becky Chambers.

  • My favorite horror novel is probably World War Z by Max Brooks, favorite sci-fi that I've read recently was Exordia by Seth Dickinson, and favorite fantasy was Long Live Evil by Sarah Rees Brennan

  • I also read danmei. No I will not apologize for it. I like my romances with action scenes involving battling hordes of undead with swords and kung fu. Western romance writers could learn a thing or three.

Other fun facts about me!

  • I have two completed novel manuscripts, and am currently looking for representation

  • I'm best friends with Collette Grace who, is a fantastic writer you should totally check out!

  • I play DND and make tables for dungeon masters to use in their games. You can see them here

  • I drew the little rex icon at the top of the page! I like to draw and some might even say I'm good at it. I sell some of my art here on Inprnt
